Chris graduated from edinburgh university and edinburgh college of art with a first in fine art in 1970. his career lay in the world of museums, becoming curator of prints at the whitworth art gallery at manchester university followed by the prestigious position as deputy director of the hunterian art gallery in glasgow in 1977. 

having practiced art consistently outside of his career he decided to pursue his interests further after retirement in 1996. His initial work revealed an interest in abstract imagery but the past 15 years has seen his exploration into the natural world through highly detailed and immaculate acrylic paintings.
